Rescuer offers to illegally dispense Propathol (Propofol) for the purpose of being given to a dog.
What's new with Let Them Die Rescue? Hmm, did I post that out loud? I meant Let Them Live Rescue. Well, it seems that among other things, Amy is now offering to illegally dispense the anesthetic Propathol (Propofol). She has offered to do this at least once that we know of - to a woman for the purpose of using it on her dog. Amy is not a doctor, in spite of her outrageous claims that she was fully educated as a veterinarian but just never bothered to get licensed. She has no authority to dispense this drug, period. It is highly unethical as well as illegal to do this and I cannot imagine how she is explaining herself for this one. I am sure she has a crazy ass story as usual to defend herself with. How she would even obtain this drug I have no idea nor why she would want it. This drug was meant to be used by doctors and vets in a hospital setting, not at home by laypersons. This would have clearly been a very dangerous thing for the poor dog in question. By the way, Propofol is the same drug that Michael Jackson was using and that was implicated in his death. So sure, it makes sense that you'd use this anesthetic on a defenseless animal at home without a veterinarian present, right?
Soooo... if AV is willing to break the law in this situation, in what other situations is she also willing to skirt the law when it suits her? What crimes has she already committed? Just how much does she love animals? I suspect about as much as the former director at MAS (Memphis Animal Services) cared about the animals there - he only cared about his salary, not the lives or suffering of the animals there. Do you really think AV is any different? You gotta wonder don't ya?
Shame on you AV, you are a danger to all the animals who are unfortunate enough to be anywhere near you!! Stop blaming everyone else for all the trouble that you continually find yourself in - you bring it on yourself - and maybe take up horticulture or something.. at least plants don't have feelings so how much damage could you do?

This is still very wrong though and still illegal if she were to actually dispense propofol.
So what can you do if you are outraged that AV is offering to illegally dispense the anesthetic Propathol (Propofol)?

Propofol does not appear to be classified as a schedule IV drug per the Controlled Substances Act yet, but it looks like the future federal trafficking penalties for illegally trafficking propofol are likely to be the following according to the DEA:
All other Schedule IV drugs is First Offense : Not more than 5 years. Fine not more than $250,000 if an individual, $1 million if not an individual. http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/fed_regs/rules/2009/fr0723.htm

You can report her to the DEA in Kentucky (KY is handled out of the Detroit office; see map of DEA offices in the link provided below) and/or to the local LE authorities there.

The controversy over Let Them Live Rescue

Review fromLindsey M.
Madison, WIDo NOT adopt an animal from this rescue.
I adopted a puppy from this shelter a few days ago (late May, 2011), and the puppy has parvovirus. This is a very contagious, fatal virus in dogs and cats.
The "rescuer," Amy Verder, refuses to accept the diagnosis from my vet. Even worse, she knew the little pup had been exposed to parvovirus, did not quarantine the litter, did not have them tested, told me my puppy was healthy and would send vet papers, did not send me vet papers, and sent the little thing to me across state lines. She continues to "rescue" animals and adopt them out. She is not sterilizing her facility.
She arranged a "transporter" to bring the puppy to me. I requested the transporter business contact information, and she would not provide it. Turns out, the transporter was just one of her friends. At 11 pm this "transporter" shows up on my doorstep with a sick little puppy, bloated with worms, skin and bones, and suffering from parvovirus.
The transporter handed me an envelope and said there were vet papers inside. She handed me a diarrhea and vomit soaked blanket and told me I could keep it. Gee, thanks. Before I could even open the envelope the woman left. Inside was simply a "certificate of examination," which noted that the puppy had been exposed to parvovirus. Amy did NOT notify me of this fact before I received the animal, and when I had inquired about the health, she had actually told me there were "no health concerns."
She is at the vet right now, and likely will not make it. My options were to spend between $900-$2000 dollars treating her or euthanize her. I couldn't choose the latter... although I did not expect this or choose this situation, I am all this little dog has right now.
But Amy's facility needs to be investigated and shut down. There is nowhere to post a review on http://Petfinder.com or report this nonsense. I am trying to contact the appropriate authorities to have her place investigated. In the mean time, do not any animals from this facility.
Update: After a week and a half and well over $1,000 in vet care, my puppy has survived. She is doing well and finally has some fat on her bones. At 9 weeks old, she was about the size of a 3-4 week old for her breed type. But now she's getting big :)
I called the vet in Kentucky that issued the certificate - he thinks the certificate was not written for my dog because the dates do not match (between the certificate and the date Amy told me the examination was performed) and the weights between my puppy (upon arrival) and a couple days prior with the cert. exam do not make sense.
Additionally, Amy was supposed to provide me with records of vaccinations. The vet in Kentucky said he did not provide any. Amy then emailed me a photocopy of some vaccination cards. There is no indication on the cards when the vaccines were issued and no indication as to which dog. When a person gives an animal vaccines themselves, they are supposed to take the upc sticker off the vaccination tube and place it on the records. You will not get that with Amy at "Let Them Live Rescue." My vet is now treating my puppy as if she has had no vaccinations, because as far as records go, she has had none.
I strongly urge you to go to your local humane society.
To be on the internet and look up Let Them Live Rescue in Taylorsville, Kentucky, you would be surprised as to what you will find. There are websites stating they are bad and there are websites stating they are good. There are blogs saying the rescue kills animals and there are others that state how they saved their new fur-baby they just adopted. On social networks there are pages created to show how horrible they are and to never use them, but then there are others that state what a wonderful rescue it is and how they will work with them again.
What is the truth? Just what is Let Them Live Rescue and who runs it? Let Them Live Rescue is in Taylorsville, Kentucky in Spencer County. The rescue was started by Amy Verder and her daughter helps her with it. Just really who are they and why such controversy over the internet. People have the right to know and when in rescue their word is just not enough. Research needs to be done.

Let Them Live Rescue has worked with many veterinarians in the area as well as shelters. Tricia Cole with White Oak Animal Safe Haven has used Verder on several occasions including a dog named Vadar and will continue. Cole stated she has been very happy with the rescue and Verder. Even after hearing the things on the internet Cole called and talked to Verder personally and asked a million questions just to make sure she was making the right decision.
Southern Comfort Animal Rescue in Georgia has utilized Let Them Live Rescue. Ellen a pregnant stray was brought in to Southern Comfort Animal Rescue. They contacted Verder to see if she could take her since she was pregnant and they had no room. Verder said yes and within a few weeks she gave birth at Let Them Live Rescue. Verder kept Ellen for her own dog as she had a special place in her heart for Ellen, until Verder found the perfect owner. Ellen went to her new fur-ever home in August where she is very happy.
The Spencer County K-9 Rescue & Enforcement utilizes Verder with Let Them Live Rescue in special cases or even when they just do not have the room. Officer Nolan Bryant took this position over a year ago and has since taken his job very seriously. He goes to his rescues, shelters and kennels monthly to make sure they are abiding by the rules and regulations. He goes to each site and inspects to make sure no one is in any violation or harming any animals.
Most states only inspect once a year or when there is trouble, but in this county they inspect monthly. When asked about Let Them Live Rescue he said, “I get calls a lot about Let Them Live Rescue. They are all from other states and have never been to the place. I take their report and go to the site but nothing. The calls get tiresome as there have never been any issues with Let Them Live Rescue in the year plus I have been here.”
“In the year that I have been inspecting it has been arranged that I am allowed at Amy Verder’s rescue announced or unannounced and whether she is there or not. I am still welcomed,” said Officer Bryant. He also stated he has never seen any violations, animals harmed or any bad conditions, or ever seen anything out of sorts there. So why is the Let Them Live Rescue receiving such bad information on the internet?
When talking to Officer Bryant he wanted to make sure everyone understood just how important Verder and Let Them Live Rescue were to the community. Officer Bryant said, “The Spencer County Judge just signed off on Amy Verder and her daughter Lea Ganelle Verder as Spencer County K-9 Rescue & Enforcement Volunteers. This is a big deal as they help with intakes, minor paperwork and helping generally with all the animals.” They received their shirts and paperwork just the other day for their volunteer positions.
Now if a rescue or the owner of a rescue was as bad as some have said on the internet then why would the county’s judge have signed them into a volunteer position within the animal control? Everyone in the community seems to be happy with Verder and her rescue efforts. She puts her heart and soul into what she does and spends her every dime on the animals. Isn’t that was rescue is all about? It’s about the animals and doing a good job.
“Verder was a great help one night as I received in some dogs that I had no room for at the Animal Control, so I called Verder to see if she had the room. She said to bring them out and she would take them. I was grateful to her for that,” said Officer Bryant.
It is comments like these that need to be heard and it is articles like these that need to be seen on the internet. This can help one figure out the truth about Let Them Live Rescue and how they function. It is articles like these that show how they run their business and how other people that work with them on a regular basis feel about them. It is here that people will hopefully understand everything you read on the internet is not always what it seems.
NOTE: When utilizing any rescue you are unfamiliar with it is best to call them for references. Ask them who they have worked with before. Get names and numbers so you can call and ask questions. Ask for former adopters name and numbers if possible and talk to them too. It is always best to gather too much information than to not get enough. Not getting enough information first is why so many of the dogs you see today in shelters have ended up there.
